Friending the Unfriendable

As I read the latter part of Matthew 28, I can't help but think Christ is calling us to make friends with the "least of these." How can we teach everything we know about the Lord to someone in a short visit? It's impossible! Is this going to be comfortable? No, I don't think so. Will it be fun? Probably not...But in order to fulfill Christ's command of teaching people His ways, we must do more than have a 10 minute conversation with someone.

Go10 - A Changed Life

With the upcoming Go10 Walk, I have been given the opportunity to be Regional Coordinator of our area. Not only will I be recruiting teens and adults to participate, but I must also get myself in shape for this event. Yesterday, I met with Joe Wilson -- Program Director for the Go10. He thoroughly covered all the basis for this event. 2,500 miles is a long way to walk, but I am very excited about the 90 miles our region covers. Let's do our part and participate in this historical event. In the meantime, I am working on my fitness level.

To learn more about the Go10, you may send me an email at: jeffb98@aol.com or visit http://www.go10walk.com/

Remember...If you want to participate, you must register online at http://www.go10walk.com/ and be sure to make a note of our region's walk dates -- Friday, June 4; Saturday, June 5; and Monday, June 7.

Simple Peace

Simple but peaceful.

With the TV turned off, candles lit, and my "Fung Shui" rock waterfall turned on, I am extremely relaxed. Simple but peaceful. How often do we get bogged down with life...just plain old life. Dividing our precious time between work, home, and whatever else comes our way. Taking the kids to the ballgame, making sure dinner is ready, paying the bills on time...you get the idea. So many times we burn the candle at both ends and neglect to give ourselves the "simple peace" that recharges our mental capacity.

In 1 Kings chapter 19, Elijah is fleeing for his life and running from Jezebel. Jezebel is married to the Israelite King Ahab. She helps convert Ahab from worshipping God (the one true God) to worshipping Baal (a weather god). In this scene, Elijah exposes Baal as powerless which infuriates Jezebel. She is trying to track him down and kill him. Elijah is feeling all alone and scared. Probably much like us when we encounter uncertain circumstances. During this escapade, Elijah flees to a cave and God confronts him. The rocks begin to tremble, the earth begins to quake, and fire begins to rage, but God is not in the midst of these destructive forces. It isn't until Elijah hears God's "still small voice" that he was settled and calm. God reassures Elijah that he is not alone. Similarly, we need to listen to God's still small voice and realize that we are not alone. Although Elijah's circumstance may be different than ours, we can still apply this principle to our life.

In the midst of a chaotic life, slow down and enjoy life's simple peace.

Hunger: No favoritism allowed

Lately I've been thinking about hunger and the effects of hunger in my surrounding community. When I look at folks affected by this, I learn that hunger respects no one. Hunger can strike anyone at anytime. Those who are blessed to obtain the "hunger remedy" will forgo hunger pangs, but I pity those who are not so fortunate. What would our society look like without hunger issues? Children in the US would not have to go to bed without proper nutrition. Test scores in school would be much higher. Diseases and common illnesses could be fought off due to having a stable and strong immune system.

Unfortunately, we do not live in a society that is free from hunger. This is why we must reach out to those who are hurting. We must be ready and willing to give a helping hand to those in need. Yes, our comfort zone will totally be turned upside down, but it's imperative for us to realize that helping others is our obligation. Will you join me in reaching out to those who need a helping hand?

Today I turn 29

Today I am entering the final year of my life as a twenty-something. I have to admit, it is very difficult for me to think about this. Although my parents keep reminding me that if I don't get older I will be dead, I still can't help but to think about my earthly mortality. As morbid as it sounds, I am realizing that my life is very temporal. Temporal is a word I've heard in church my whole life, but I am finally learning the implications of this earthly death sentence. One day, I am going to die. One day, I will no longer exist upon this earth. My biggest fear is that I will die without having accomplished all that I should have accomplished. This is beginning to create a desire within me to become a more motivated person. Only God knows what the future holds. Only God knows...
